Will there be support for network based HA devices

Hello, Been keeping an eye on CastleOS since it was first announced, quite excited that it is finally in the wild! I'm planning on setting up the beta and seeing how it integrates with my setup (lots of insteon stuff), but was curious if it would also work with network based HA equipment? (I have a GlobalCache IR controller for my entertainment system that is controlled via ethernet). edited by nikku on 1/3/2013
Hey Nick! At the moment we only support Insteon (and its associated X10), but not any other protocols. However, we don't intend it to stay that way for long! Once CastleOS is fully vetted and out of beta, our immediate plans are to start adding more protocols. Initially, that will be Z-Wave and ZigBee, but it will expand to others as well, including networked devices like the GlobalCache and the Radio Thermostats (WiFi).
I think I should add a thread on the feature suggestion forum to track the various protocol/device support requests, I'll add your request there. Thanks!

Can you send any errors you are seeing in the error log? You can find it at: C:\ProgramData\CastleOS\CastleOS Core Service\Errors.xml
Generally speaking though, the behavior you are seeing is caused by CastleOS not being able to contact the PLM - usually the COM port setting is incorrect. The error log would confirm this if so. |

Well that's interesting, we've never seen that error before. Let me research it now and get back to you... |

Which version of Windows are you running? XP/Vista/7/8? x86/x64? |

Have the DB errors gone away? I run on the same version of WinServer, and others have successfully passed the PLM through to a VM, so neither of those should have caused issues, and the COM port being wrong shouldn't have caused DB errors. I'm afraid that while controlling devices works, it's not being logged to the DB still. |

So I know what the error is, it's SQL Server Compact essentially saying it can't load, but I don't know why just yet...it should work out of the box with both x86 and x64. Have you changed any security settings from default on that server? |

I appreciate it! Sorry I don't have an immediate answer, this one is new territory! I only know for sure the problem is with SQL Server Compact starting... |

Thank you! I was just going to ask you to pull that log! I think I tracked it down. Try adding these manifest files to the folders listed:
C:\Program Files (x86)\CastleOS\CastleOS Core Service\AMD64\Microsoft.VC90.CRT |

You can replace the errors.xml file with the attached blank one, start it up, and try to change the status of a device. If no errors show up, problem should be fixed. |

Excellent, thank you! That really is weird. You're the first person to have that issue, and I have the same server set up running my condo, and I don't have those files nor the errors. But it's an easy fix, I'll add them to the installer package and upload it now. Thank you very much for your help debugging this!
Let me know if you need anything else! Are you going to be trying the Kinect voice control as well? |
