http://www.amazon.com/oc/echo/ref_=ods_dp_aeAny thoughts on using these boxes instead of the Microsoft xbox 360 controllers? A real roadblock to true home networking has been the room to room usage, where running USB all over the house is costly and kludgy, -- There are a MAJOR SH*TLOAD of home automation devices at CES this year Apple with Siri is starting to make inroads, NEST / GOOGLE also are nipping the the HA world. You really need to think of a wireless, or Net connected controller. Jonathan

We do have other interfaces in the works, like the Android Wear watches which will also include voice control. And something else we'll be announcing shortly

Tasker requires custom scripting. One of the promises of CastleOS is that our interfaces, especially our voice interfaces, are ready to be used out of the box

Just got my Amazon Echo. I have to say, that as much as the kinect impressed me, this thing blows that out of the water. It will recognize anything I say across the room with full music playing. I am REALLY hoping they release an API. If we could get this thing interconnected with CastleOS, that would be the best of both worlds. Especially with the build in speaker. Just hoping Amazon does not drop it as this product has a huge amount of potential.

We're in direct contact with the Echo team at Amazon. That's all I can say for now... I am very excited to hear this. Let us know what you can when you can. I have held off on planning kinect installs in two other rooms due to this. They were low priority anyway, but I would love to switch completely to the ECHO. Amazing how far Voice tech has come the last few years. Have you had a chance to try the Echo yourself yet?

Any update on this? Got one of these and have a second ordered. Tried with Belkin switch and worked incredibly well. Would be great to replace the Kinects with these and have insteon devices supported.

It looks like an incredible product on its own. But coupled with CastleOS, it could be very powerful and much easier to use that Kinnect (because of the connected PC requirement). My one concern with this, along with my IVEE, is that it would tie the product to the cloud.

Amazon is currently working on finishing the Alexa AppKit. This will open the formal API for use. While it isn't ready for release yet, we will be meeting with them at the end of this month we're we'll be introduced to the latest version of the AppKit. Stay tuned!

Remember, that each echo in each room should be 'smart' when you walk into the living room and say lights on, it knows your in the living room. Also try and bypass the run app command for every command (alexa castle os turn on light) it should be (Alexa start castleos) then be in command mode till you turn off the castleOS .app
Jonathan
PS: I am volunteering for beta test for the version that has echo support. edited by macgeek on 6/11/2015

Thought I would check in since the month is almost gone. Is CastleOS working with the beta Alexa appkit? Is this a direction CastleOS wants to go in, or just sort of checking out as a future option?
I added my second echo yesterday, and was happily surprised that it picked up the belkin switch I have with no additional discovery or anything. That said 99% of the house is insteon, and I have yet to see anything on IFTTT that will work directly with insteon. The voice recognition is better than the kinects and with the added bonus of a speaker, no need to drop $$$ on a Sonos Play1. Also figuring the wireless factor (where as the kinect needs connecting).... and the fact that amazon is keeping the product and now selling it without an invite for $180. I think this would be a pretty awesome to use with CastleOS.
Give me some hope!!!

Give me some hope!!! Amazon just released the AppKit, now called Alexa Skills Kit, today! We're meeting with them shortly to get a hands on walkthrough of the latest and greatest in the new release, and we're already digging into it on our end. Stay tuned!

That is pretty cool! So are you using the original speaker and placing it in a different location, or using an aux of a different sound system? Jonathan Gleich wrote: Just bought my third echo, Modified it to work in my Spa
