Hi Chris,
Hope you're well.
Do you have any plans to support Sesame Smart lock? https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1425492550/sesame-your-key-reinvented

Direct login from outside

Hello Forum,
I searched the forum, but was not able to find similar thread, sorry if duplicate.
I would like to suggest a secure direct login to the Castleos from outside. Using VPN or anything like that.
I see that Castleos Android finds the server when on wifi network, but can't see the server when outside. |

Hi Chris,
Is it possible to use Kinect as a Web or Security camera? Also, is it possible to use Kinect for face/voice recognition and then link it to any trigger?
Or maybe say any password to be recognized by CastleOS as the owner.
Thank you, Andrey edited by adanchenko on 5/19/2015 edited by adanchenko on 5/19/2015 |

Hi Chris,
While we're waiting for the Kickstarter's Hub, can we get a license for CastleOS so we can get our systems up and running and get accustomed to CastleOS? And later, when we get the Hub, we'll simply transfer the backup to a new Hub?
Thank you, Andrey |

You missed it, it was $399 couple weeks ago. Probably somebody forgot to update the site. |

Hi Chris,
Is it possible to buy a bare metal CastleHUB? Seems pretty good hardware for other stuff and have a spare in case if the first ever fails. |

Yessir! We currently support many ZigBee devices through bridges like the Hue Bridge, and we'll be adding more ZigBee support after the new API launches.
Thanks!
Super! What Zigbee USB dongle or hub would you advice? |

Linux OS

Hey Guava,
I too would love Linux support, however this concerns me: "The project which started in early November 2010 is in a prerelease, early phase sensor development status (February 2011)". So in 4 or 5 years, the project hasn't released a stable version yet. For CastleOS, with multiple (paying) customers, they need a stable offering. With a driver that isn't officially released yet, and also (on that Github link) mentions a few issues about Windows support, I don't think is a viable option at this time.
When you install the CastleOS Kinect service, you're prompted to install language packs from Microsoft. I for example, installed the English Australia pack. This is some language processing, so that the Kinect can understand what I'm saying in my accent. These are provided by Microsoft as part of the Kinect SDK. Without this, the Kinect is just a Microphone, and CasleOS would need to do its own language processing.
This would significantly increase the size of the CastleOS software, not to mention companies spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on this. I don't think CastleOS has the manpower, or financial resources to develop their own speech recognition engine, that supports multiple accents.
For the time being, I think a feasible approach would be for CastleOS Core to be linux supported. For Kinects, these would need to run off Windows PCs, but should be able to relay their commands as plain text back to the linux server. In terms of timeline, I would say its not going to be here by the end of 2015. The CastleHub was promised in July, then August, now its September. With the CastleHub was due the new API, same timeline. However the latest beta releases also don't have this new API. With three month delays on things like that, I can't see multiple platform support being added in anytime soon.
What's the problem, Guys? Install Wine for Linux. Check this link https://www.winehq.org/ - it allows installing Windows apps on Linux. Didn't try it with CastleOS, but it works well with the most Win software. |

Hey Guys,
Did anybody try to hook up additional Kinects to Raspberry Pi's? I haven't tried it yet, but since a new Pi supports Windows 10, it might work.
Any ideas/comments?
Thanks! |

CastleOS Server-Clients

Hi Chris,
I suggest to implement the Client-Server configuration. For example, to control remote locations, where the Server CastleOS will be controlling remote locations (Client computers with CastleOS in this case). |

CastleOS Server-Clients

Hi Chris,
Let's say I have a remote cabin with its own set of z-wave, etc. devices that I want to be controlled by CastleOS. I want this remote location(s) to be controlled by my main CastleOS (CastleOS server) computer from my home. So in this case I would be able to control 2 locations (cabin and home) from one terminal (home): Home - CastleOS Server and Cabin(s) - CastleOS Client(s).
Something like that... edited by adanchenko on 9/22/2015 |

I have the same issue.
I've recently bought Belkin's led bulbs and can only see them over Belkin's app.
I'm vice versa to Meredith - I'm on wired network, connected directly to wifi router with Upnp
I hope the long waited CastleOS Hub will solve most if not all (crossed fingers) issues... edited by adanchenko on 9/28/2015 |

Hi Gary,
Check this link http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/windows-10-recovery-options Specifically see "Restore from a system restore point"
If the only problem is in .7z software, I would suggest to simply reinstall it from Windows store or whatever you got it previously and don't touch Windows. |

If the only problem is the zip software (particularly 7z), then I would suggest not to touch Windows as you may lose other software/drivers, etc. I haven't checked yet if Chris created a restore partition but I really doubt as the internal SSD is really small.
In your case - simply install 7z zip software, it's free: http://www.7-zip.org/
Please let me know if this helped. |

Forgot about restore point: it exists, you simply need to switch it on: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/turn-system-restore-on-off#1TC=windows-7
Or simply google how to turn on system restore on. |
